The Chicago Tribune reports that a lawsuit filed in Cook County Circuit Court says Darryl Carr suffered an infection that intensified to the point where his left leg was amputated. Carr eventually passed away.
The injury occurred at the AZ Happy Nails salon where Carr's feet were soaked in a chemical solution and then in a hot wax solution, Yahoo! Health says. His family claims that the solutions were contaminated and that his left foot soaked for too long.
As a result, Carr suffered "serious burns" to his leg, Fox News reports. The wounds then became infected. The lawsuit faults the salon for inadequate safety and training procedures, and for failing to warn Carr of potential risks.
Carr received the pedicure in November 2013 and died this month, Fox News continues to report. He is survived by his wife and two kids, ages 10 and 13. His wife looks to request a minimum of $50,000 in damages from the salon.
